American parents of students in kindergarten through 12th grade plan to spend $12.5 billion online this back-to-school season, up from $10.4 billion last year, according to a new survey from Deloitte.

E-commerce in Canada has nearly doubled since 2019, eMarketer says. In 2020, Canada’s retail ecommerce economy grew 75%. That’s second only to Argentina — at 100.6% — but well ahead of the US, at 32.4%, and worldwide growth of 25.7%. In 2021, ecommerce will grow another 12% to reach CA$86.52 billion ($64.51 billion), almost double the sales volume of 2019. Double-digit annual gains are expected through 2024.

Despite the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, e-commerce growth in India fell back sharply in 2020. But estimates for this year, and forecasts to 2022 show a sharp uptick, before moderating again out to 2025. Data from London-based data and analytics company GlobalData indicate that e-commerce sales will rise at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of just over 18% between 2021 and 2025, to reach $120.1 billion (or 8.8 trillion Indian rupees).

Ecommerce in Europe is set to reach a major milestone in 2021, as the number of ecommerce users will probably pass 500 million. The penetration rate is also projected to reach almost 60 percent. EData presented by TradingPlatforms shows that there were 480.9 million digital commerce users in Europe last year. And this number is predicted to grow to 506.9 million by the end of this year.

China’s online retail sales increased 10.9% year-on-year to RMB 11.8 trillion in 2020, state-backed media People’s Daily reported. The figure represents roughly a quarter of the country’s overall consumer retail sales. Livestream sales reached RMB 388 million by the end of December, more than doubling from March 2020.
