What is the Digital Services Act
The European Commission adopted the Digital Services Act (DSA) that entered into force on 16 November 2022.
The DSA regulates the obligations of digital services that act as intermediaries in their role of connecting consumers with goods, services, and content. This includes online marketplaces such as eBay, among others. The DSA gives better protection to users and to fundamental rights online, establishes a powerful transparency and accountability framework for online platforms and provides a single, uniform framework across the European Union (EU).
Find out more details about the DSA on the EU Commission website.
For more than 25 years, eBay has been committed to protecting the safety of its global customers worldwide who use eBay’s trusted platforms. Millions of transactions happen every day on the site, and eBay values the trust of its customers. eBay embraces the DSA as an opportunity to demonstrate and deepen the commitment to protecting its customers. eBay already has in place several initiatives that contribute to the DSA’s objectives.
What you need to know
If you’re a registered business seller who has listings available for purchase to buyers in the European Union, your listings will reflect the rules established by the Digital Services Act.
Following new or updated regulations can be difficult to track and take time, so eBay has made it easy for you.
How to provide your customized business contact details
eBay has created a new page for sellers to customize their contact information (phone number and email address) that will be displayed on listings available to EU buyers. The user-friendly interface is designed to pre-populate the contact details you provided when you registered as a business, but you can also manually update these details.
If you sell to EU buyers they will be able to find your business contact details on listings available to them. By sharing your business details you’ll earn trust with your EU buyers.
