Checklist: your perfect listing to sell clothes

There are many things to consider when selling clothes online. Your item should not only be easy to find. It should suit your buyer in color, cut or size so he or she won’t be disappointed. Learn how to photograph clothing for sale and compose listings on eBay to get a complete picture of the product:

☑ Photos make it clear what exactly you are selling.

If you are photographing a thing as part of an outfit, the focus should still be on your product. Place the product in the center of the frame. Add pictures to the gallery that show only the product you are selling.

Wrong: It is not obvious if seller is offering shorts, a T-shirt or a bag.

Right: All attention on the product — jeans.

☑ Item is ready for sale.

No one wants to buy a wrinkled or dirty item with sticky threads and hanging buttons. Don't forget to clean and iron your product before taking a photo.

Wrong: Item is wrinkle.

Right: Item is ironed.

☑ You can see the cut in the photo.

You took pictures from different angles, on a model or a mannequin. It’s clear how your item sits on a person.

Wrong: The cut of the product is not clear.

Right: Photo on the model, you can see how the thing sits.

☑ The pictures show the color and texture of the fabric.

Don't edit your photo too much. The shade of the fabric in the photo should be as close to reality as possible. Lighting also plays an important role. For perfect results, shoot in daylight. If you were unable to show the real color on the photo, write about it in the description.

Wrong: The color is not clear.

Right: The texture and color of the fabric are visible, there are photos from different angles and there are photos of the details.

If you have similar items with different variations, try to use Listings with variations. This tool makes the search easier for the buyer and gives you a structured way to differentiate between similar (but not identical) items in a multi-quantity, fixed-price listing.

☑ Photo shows the fittings.

Details are very important when choosing clothes. Show the clasps, buttons, straps.

☑ You have specified the brand and country of origin.

This is a defining moment for many buyers.

Please note: selling replicas or counterfeit items on eBay is not allowed. You also cannot mislead customers and mention a brand that the product is not related to. Otherwise, your account may be blocked.

eBay is committed to enforcing intellectual property rights. Read the terms of Verified Rights Owner Program (VeRO), if you are going to sell branded items.

☑ You have indicated the type of fabric from which the product is made.

The buyer needs to understand how durable an item is, whether it is suitable for certain weather conditions. In addition, the consumer may have an allergic reaction to certain types of tissue.

☑ You have specified all sizes.

Even within the same country and the same production, different models may have different size charts. Therefore, it is better not only to indicate the exact parameters of the thing in centimeters, but also to draw the attention of the buyer separately if the thing is small or large.

☑ You indicated the parameters of the model in the photo.

If you are showing an item on a person, indicate his or her height and parameters. Write in the description what size your model is wearing. So the buyer will be able to roughly imagine how the thing will look on him/her by comparing the parameters.

☑ You gave information about the condition of your item.

If you are selling a used product, be sure to write down if there are any wear marks on it. Show all defects in the photo.

If you are confident that you are selling a truly rare item, try an auction. Also use the tool Offer to Buyers. It can help you target buyers already interested in your items and to close the sale faster.

☑ You have specified the conditions for returning the item.

Even if you specified all the necessary parameters and showed exactly how the item looks, there is still a possibility that it will not suit the buyer. So give him/her an opportunity to return the purchase. According to internal statistics from eBay, flexible and beneficial return policies can increase conversions by 5–25%.

Wrong: Seller does not accept returns.

☑ You have offered different shipping options.

Include the cost of basic shipping in the price of the product, and, for those buyers who are not ready to wait, offer an express option for an additional charge.

☑ You use every opportunity for promotion.

Offer Volume Price Discount — motivate buyers to build a complete look in your store. Use coupons and other tools to set up discounts and advertising campaigns.

Right: Seller offers a discount for the purchase of several items, and the listing immediately attracts attention.
