What is eBay Guaranteed Fit?
It’s important to eBay that buyers trust the parts and accessories sold on the marketplace will fit their vehicles as intended. That’s why eBay has introduced the eBay Guaranteed Fit program designed to protect buyers and sellers from fitment issues.
This program helps sellers build trust with buyers by giving them the confidence to purchase parts and accessories on eBay. It applies to most parts and accessories for cars, trucks, and motorcycles with more automotive products to be added in the future.
Following the success of the eBay Guaranteed Fit program in the U.S., the company launched eBay Assured Fit on ebay.co.uk and eBay Fahrzeugteile-Versprechen on ebay.de.
Please note that the program doesn’t cover international shipments.
Benefits for sellers
Fewer returns
As buyers become more comfortable searching for products using their vehicle fitment information, the risk of errors is reduced which may lead to fewer returns.
Free return labels
In the unlikely event that a return is required as a result of a fitment issue, return shipping will be paid for by eBay. Exclusions apply (see FAQ below).
Sales conversion
Increased buyer confidence may lead to more sales.
How does eBay Guaranteed Fit work?
Buyer searches for the right part
When a buyer searches for a part or accessory using their vehicle details, we’ll check the vehicle details against item compatibility information in your listing through eBay’s fitment feature.
When there’s a match, fit is confirmed with a green checkmark on the listing.
Buyer purchases an eligible part or accessory
When a buyer purchases an eligible part or accessory with the green checkmark, fit is assured, or the item is covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee, with free returns.
eBay will protect you if there are returns with fitment issues
If the item arrives and doesn’t fit the buyer’s vehicle, they can open a return request using the “Doesn’t fit my vehicle” return reason.
If the seller chooses to resolve it by accepting the return, the buyer will get a return label from eBay at no charge (exceptions may apply).*
*Free return labels are not available for:
- International items
- Items are shipped in multiple packages
- Items weighing more than 20kg
- Items in the Wheels, Tyres & Parts category
How to participate?
Participation is optional. However, participation in the program may result in lower return costs and the enhanced buyer experience can generate more sales. If you want to take advantage of eBay Guaranteed Fit, ensuring your items are eligible is simple. Just follow these steps:
1. Add compatibility information to your listings
To be eligible for the eBay Guaranteed Fit program, items must be listed in the applicable eBay Vehicle Parts & Accessories categories and have accurate compatibility information.
Sellers can select which items to include in the program by completing the compatibility table. Learn more about parts compatibility listings.
Categories eligible for eBay Guaranteed Fit protections
Most items in the Car & Truck category and Motorcycle category are covered by the protections with the exception of tires and wheels. More categories will be added in the future. If my items are eligible for eBay Guaranteed Fit, is it required for all of them to be covered under eBay Assured Fit or do I have the flexibility to select specific items?
Items without the compatibility information are not covered by the guarantee. You have the flexibility to determine which listings have this information completed. By adding compatibility information (also known as “fitment”) into specific items, eBay Guaranteed Fit will be applied to those specific items.
Is eBay Guaranteed Fit free and accessible for all sellers?
Yes. It’s free and accessible for all sellers on eligible items.
In what situations will eBay pay for a return shipping label?
eBay will pay for return shipping when a return claim/reason is opened for “Doesn’t fit my vehicle” and an eBay label is available. There are some circumstances that an eBay label won't be available, which include:
- The return is international
- The item is oversized or a freight item exceeding the maximum weight and size limits (e.g. engine, bumper)
- The return is delivered in multiple packages
- The item is in the Wheels, Tyres & Parts category
If a part or an accessory doesn’t meet the eligibility criteria for an eBay label, you’ll be responsible for providing a way for the buyer to return the item.*

What vehicle information does eBay ask from buyers to confirm fitment?
For the Car parts category, buyers must provide full vehicle information for eBay to confirm fitment:

What happens if my part doesn’t have fitment data available?
Items that don’t have fitment data, universal parts and customized/remodeled parts, won’t be eligible for eBay Guaranteed Fit. However, the items may be eligible for other seller protections offered by eBay.
I don’t have a return policy. Do I need to change my return policy to receive eBay Guaranteed Fit protections?
No, you don’t need to change your return policy. If a buyer opens a return because the item doesn’t fit their vehicle, you’ll need to resolve it even if you don’t offer returns.
