Seller fees

Figuring out eBay selling fees

eBay aims to make it easy to understand what you’re paying, freeing you to focus on maximizing your sales.

eBay basic fee structure is simple. It’s free to list. You’ll only pay a fee if your item sells.

The costs to sell are broken down into two phases:

For most casual sellers, it’s free to list on eBay. If you list more than 250 items per month, you’ll start paying a $0.35 insertion fee per listing. Category exclusions apply.

The number of zero insertion fee listings per month is not related to the account's selling limit.

The offer for 250 free listing per month is available only on ebay.com. On other eBay sites, the number of listings with zero posting fees may be different or not available.

When will you have to pay increased or additional fees?

Fees for optional listing upgrades

When creating your listing, you can select upgrades like subtitles or setting an auction reserve price. These features incur an additional fee that will be charged whether or not your item sells.

eBay Advertising fees

Help your items stand out among billions of listings on eBay and increase the likelihood of a sale through Promoted Listings. The best thing is you only pay an ad fee if your item sells.

International fee

If your eBay registered address is in an “eBay global country”, eBay may charge an International fee. It depends on the item delivery address and the buyer's registered address.

Additional final value fees

You may be charged final value fees if you violate eBay's policy of buying or selling outside of eBay, or it may apply additional final value fees if you are not meeting eBay's performance expectations.

Dispute fee

If you are found responsible for a disputed amount as per eBay policies (e.g., chargeback), eBay charges a Dispute fee for each dispute. The amount of the Dispute fee depends on which eBay site the listing was created on.

Seller currency conversion charge

When you create listings or sell items on an international eBay site, eBay may convert your funds to a different currency in order to collect amounts owed by you to eBay, or to payout funds due to you.

To sum it up, the amount eBay charges depends on:

  • The item's price
  • The format and category you choose for your listing
  • The number of listings you have placed this month
  • Optional listing upgrades you add
  • Advertising tools you use
  • The eBay site where you are listing
  • Your eBay registered address
  • Your seller conduct and performance

How fees and selling costs are charged?

Getting paid for items you've sold

Your seller fees and selling costs are automatically deducted from the proceeds of your sales, and the rest of your funds are paid directly into your checking account. So your payout amount may be different than the amount your buyer paid.

Payouts are sent to your checking account daily or weekly, biweekly, or monthly, depending on your selected preference.

Fee credits

If there was an issue with an order that you resolved, you may qualify for a credit of some or all of the fees you paid.

For eligible partial refunds, fee credits are proportional to the refund that the buyer receives. There are some situations when a buyer is refunded but you won't be eligible for fee credits.

Frequently asked questions

When will I be charged selling fees?

Insertion fees, including optional listing upgrades fees, are charged at the time your item is listed. Sellers get up to 250 zero insertion fee listings each month; so, if you have fewer than 250 live listings and do not want any optional upgrades for your listing, you won’t be charged any insertion fees when you create a listing. If you do elect to upgrade your listings, those upgrade fees will be charged at time of listing, regardless of whether your item sells.

The offer for 250 free listing per month is available only on ebay.com. On other eBay sites, the number of listings with zero insertion fees may be different or not available.

Final value fees, meanwhile, are charged once your item sells. If your item doesn’t sell, you will not be charged any final value fees.

How are final value fees calculated?

eBay charges one final value fee when your item sells. This fee is calculated as a percentage of the total amount of the sale — including the cost of the item and shipping, sales tax, and other applicable fees — plus the per order fee. Learn more

How am I billed for selling fees?

Fees and expenses such as those arising from refunds, claims or disputes, are deducted directly from your earnings. If your earnings are not sufficient to cover these amounts eBay will charge your payment method on file (debit or credit card, and/or linked bank account) within 14 days. Learn more

Where can I find a breakdown and explanation of the fees I have been charged?

An itemized list of all your selling transactions and associated fees can be viewed under the “Payments” tab in Seller Hub or My eBay.

Tip: You can view fees by clicking the “Fees” filter button located above your list of transactions. Go to the Payments tab in Seller Hub or Payments in My eBay.

What are International fees?

If your eBay registered address is in an “eBay global country”, eBay charges an International fee if either:

  • The delivery address for the item (entered by the buyer during checkout) is outside your registered address country, or
  • The buyer's registered address is outside your registered address country (regardless of the delivery address for the item)

The International fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale and is automatically deducted from your sales proceeds. The total amount of the sale is the item price, any handling charges, the shipping service the buyer selects, sales tax (or equivalent local consumer tax), and any other applicable fees. Learn more
