Selling limit and zero insertion fee listings

eBay limits are designed to help new sellers to get acquainted with the marketplace, build a positive sales history, meet buyers demands, and lay a solid foundation for a new business.

All new eBay sellers have a Selling limit and Zero insertion fee listings.

Selling limit

All eBay sellers have a certain selling limit. It means that during the calendar month you can list and/or sell up to a certain number of items for a total of a certain amount.

Selling limits are unique for each selling account. Factors that may cause differing limits for each account include:

  • The age of an account;
  • Confirmation of identity on an account;
  • An account’s link to an established account;
  • An account’s registered address;
  • Site of registration;
  • Selling performance and behaviours;
  • The volume an account has managed in the past;
  • The risk associated with the types of items listed on an account.

Unless different accounts have identical information for the criteria listed above, then they will likely have different selling limits.

  • Each item of your active and sold listings is counted toward your monthly limit.
  • If you have at least one active listing by the end of the month, items in it will be taken into account in the selling limit for the next month.
  • If you have reached your selling limit per a calendar month, you will not be able to create additional listings, raise prices, or add items to your listing till one of the active listings ends, or till the first day of the next calendar month.
  • Good 'Til Cancelled listings count toward your selling limits; these won't renew automatically if you've reached the maximum amount you can list.

To see what is your eBay selling limit:

  • In My eBay:
    1.
    Go to My eBay Selling Overview.
    2. Scroll down and find the Monthly selling limits.

  • In Seller Hub:
    1. Go to the Overview tab.
    2. Scroll down and find the Monthly limits.

eBay will review your account every month and adjust the limits automatically based on your sales volume and the feedback you've received from buyers.

Please remember that you can’t increase your selling limit by purchasing a Store subscription package.

If you've reached your monthly selling limit, you can request a limit increase and eBay will consider it.

To request a limit increase:

  • In My eBay:
    1.
    Go to My eBay Selling Overview.
    2. Scroll down and find the Monthly selling limits.
    3. Click the link Request a limit increase.

  • In Seller Hub:
    1. Go to the Overview tab.
    2. Scroll down and find the Monthly limits.
    3. Click the link Request to list more.

  • Use the quick link here or from the message eBay will send you to let you know when you get close to your monthly limit.

Then follow the on-screen instructions. Keep in mind that when you request a limit increase, eBay may need more information such as contact or business details.

Registration of new accounts in order to circumvent sales limits on eBay is prohibited. In this case, all of your accounts may be suspended indefinitely.

If you have more than one seller account, you may also be able to raise your limits by linking to your other, more established seller account. If your accounts can be linked, you'll see that option when you select Request higher selling limits.

Zero insertion fee listings

The number of zero insertion fee listings per month is not related to the account's selling limit.

If you are registered on ebay.com, you receive 250 zero insertion fee listings per month. This means you won't be charged insertion fees for these listings. You'll only pay insertion fees after you've used up those listings.

Example: you've listed 251 items on ebay.com during a month. You will be charged insertion fees for one listing.

This offer is available only on ebay.com. On other eBay sites, a number of zero insertion fee listings may differ or be unavailable.

The available allotment Zero insertion fee listings include fixed price listings, listings with the Buy it Now option and auction-style listings.

If you need more zero insertion fee listings set up an eBay Store. The number of zero insertion fee listings increases depending on the level of eBay store.

    • Coins & Paper Money
    • Collectibles
    • Dolls & Bears

  • You can add up to 12 pictures per listing for free
  • All existing selling limits on your account (as well as category and item limits) still apply and may prevent you from creating the maximum number of listings associated with your eBay Store subscription
  • The following count toward your monthly allocation of Zero insertion fee listings:

    • Duplicate identical auction-style listings (even if one or more of those listings doesn't immediately appear on eBay)
  • If you create a listing under a conditional zero-insertion-fee-listings promotion and then revise the listing so that it no longer qualifies under the terms of the promotion, you may be charged an Insertion fee (even if some of your free allocation remains)

The number of zero insertion fee listings cannot exceed your selling limit.

Example: if your selling limit is 10 items / $500 per month, and you have 250 zero insertion fee listings, you still can’t list more than 10 items with a total value above $500 per month.
