Account holds, restrictions & suspensions

Have you received a message stating that your account has been placed on hold or that it has been suspended and needs your attention?

No need to panic. First and foremost, it is important to validate that it has been sent by eBay and is not a fake email/phishing attach

So, what is the best way to check?

Firstly, check if the message exists in My eBay -> My Messages. If there is a copy of the email in your My Messages, then you can be assured it has come from eBay and needs to be actioned.

If the suspension/restriction/ hold message instructing you to take action is not in your My Messages – DO NOT RESPOND. Immediately report it spoof@ebay.com

Reasons for account suspensions/restrictions/holds

In this module, we will try to understand the reasons why accounts are put on hold, get suspended or are restricted and the actions required

eBay strives to give the best experience to its seller and buyer community. Therefore, to ensure that eBay remains as a safe marketplace eBay may apply holds, restrictions, or suspensions. These are typically applied when there has been :

  • A violation of the eBay rules or policies
  • An eBay fee payment failure or some other payment related issues
  • Unusual or risky selling behavior on an account
  • A verification failure or identity mismatch, or other personal data is missing for an account
  • An unusually high percentage of transaction defects / defects caused by delays in delivery, the products do not match the description and/or poor communication with buyers
  • A seller that has failed to resolve  a high number of cases submitted by buyers in the Resolution Center

Whenever an action is taken by eBay on your account, you will be informed via email (there will also be a copy of that email in your My Messages).

What happens while an Account is suspended?

When your eBay account is suspended, you won’t be able to:

01.

Bid, buy, or sell

02.

Leave feedback

03.

Create new listings or revise existing listings

04.

Contact bidders

05.

Reply to your eBay messages

Any bidders on your existing listings can retract their bids. When your account is reinstated, you’ll be able to leave feedback for any transactions you completed in the previous 30 days.

Depending on why your account was suspended, we may end listings early. If we remove listings because of a policy violation, eligibility for a fee credit will depend on the situation and any previous policy violations will be taken into account. These credits can be viewed on the account activity page of My eBay. Keep in mind that listing fees can be forfeited too, depending on the reason for suspension.

How to have your Account Reinstated

Getting your account reinstated may be as simple as waiting for a temporary suspension to finish, making changes to your listings, or sending us some more information-it depends on the reason we suspended your account. The full details will be in the message we’ve sent you.

If your account was restricted or suspended because of outstanding seller costs or a refund reimbursement, you can make a one-time payment to resolve the issue. When we receive your payment, your account will be reinstated.

To make a one-time payment:

  • Step – 1  > Go to Payments in My eBay or Seller Hub
  • Step – 2  > Select One-time payment to make a payment
    • Alternatively, you can add a new payment method
  • If eBay doesn’t currently manage your payments, you may also need to complete seller registration before your account will become fully reinstated.

Remember – Opening a new account when your eBay account is suspended will not solve the issue. eBay has its intelligent system in place and if detected it may lead to a new suspension. So, the best way would be to work towards solving the existing the suspension.

Watch out for spoof or fraud emails – If the suspension/restriction/hold message instructing you to take action is not in your My Messages – DO NOT RESPOND. Immediately report it spoof@ebay.com
