Improvements to rate table calculations

ebay.com.au

From 31 October, eBay’s making new improvements to rate table calculations. Weight rate tables can now consider both dimensional weight and physical weight to determine accurate postage rates.

What does this mean

Before the update, weight-based rate tables provide the postage cost to the buyer based on the total physical weight of a parcel. However, this can be different to its dimensional weight (calculated by multiplying length (L), width (W) and height (H) in meters, then multiplied by 250), which carriers may use as part of determining delivery costs. For example, to calculate the dimensional weight of a parcel that measures 50cm long, 30cm high and 40cm wide: (0.5m) × (0.3m) × (0.4m) = 0.06m × 250 = 15kg.

With dimensional weight calculation enabled, the total postage cost provided to your buyers for each parcel will be calculated based on the greater between dimensional weight and physical weight.

Next steps

  1. For sellers who do not currently have weight-based rate tables:
Any new rate tables based on weight created will already be set up with chargeable weight (the greater of dimensional and physical weight).
  2. For sellers who currently have a weight-based rate tables:
You will need to “opt-in” to allow the new calculations to work. eBay'll automatically apply dimensional weight calculations to your existing rate tables based on weight and work out the chargeable weight for all future parcels.

FAQs

Once I enable dimensional weight, can I go back to just physical weight?

No, once opted into dimensional weight all current and future weight rate tables will be calculated off chargeable weight (the greater of dimensional and physical weight).

Do I need to have dimensions added to each listing for the calculation to work?

Yes, all listings must have the correct dimensions listed for the chargeable weight calculations to work.
