eBay's new return policy will help boost buyer confidence. To streamline returns, eBay now requires a US-based return address for some eBay.com listings.

What you need to know

eBay's updated the returns requirements to give your customers a smooth and reliable returns process that helps build confidence and encourages more sales.

Starting 3 November, if you ship your items from the US but you have a return address outside the US, you’ll need to provide one of the following:

  • A return address based inside the US
  • A pre-paid returns label
  • A partial or full refund without requesting the item be returned

If your return address is already based in the US, there’s no change for you.

This policy only applies to items being fulfilled from an address within the US. Items shipped directly to a US customer from an address outside the US will not be impacted by this change.

Benefits for you and your buyers

Returning items internationally can be complicated for buyers and frustrating for sellers. eBay's updated policy is designed to make returns simpler and more transparent, helping you:

  • Boost customer satisfaction with easier returns
  • Build buyer trust with clearer tracking
  • Avoid possible confusion when items are shipped from the US

Next steps

To comply with eBay's new policy, please make sure you either have a US primary return address or a plan to provide a return label for your buyers.

Check out some of the protections eBay has in place to support your selling experience.

FAQs

Do I need to comply with the new cross-border trading return policy if I ship items from outside of the US?

No. This policy only applies to forward-deployed items from an address within the US.

What happens if I violate the policy?

If a buyer reports that you have violated the CBT return policy by failing to provide a US return address, a free return label or a full refund, your service metrics may be impacted.

Can I still communicate with buyers and use my own label under the new policy?

Yes. If you need to communicate with buyers or upload your own label, please turn on Return Merchandise Authorisation (“RMA”) in the returns preference settings.

What you need to know

Your effort should never go unnoticed and we’ve made sure it won’t. Starting in March 2026, we’ll provide automated feedback for eligible orders, giving you more opportunities to increase your feedback score.

What’s changing

Most transactions go smoothly, with sellers providing great service, but that hasn’t always been reflected in buyer feedback. Now, you’ll automatically receive feedback for successful transactions that meet all of these criteria:

  • You shipped the order with tracking and it arrived on time
  • The buyer hasn’t left feedback
  • The buyer hasn’t reported any issues

If a buyer decides to leave feedback, we’ll replace our automated message with their revised message. If the buyer returns the item or reports an issue, we’ll remove our automated feedback.

Next steps

You don’t need to take any action to benefit from automated feedback. You’ll start seeing this feedback appear in March 2026.

FAQs

When can I expect automated feedback on the site?

Automated feedback will appear in your profile starting in March 2026.

What if I don’t have tracking on my orders?

Your orders won’t qualify for automated feedback without tracking to confirm on-time delivery.

Will these improvements push down real buyer feedback on my profile?

No. Buyers see feedback ranked by relevance, not by date, so meaningful buyer comments stay prominent. Only you, as the seller, see feedback sorted by recency. Automated feedback won’t hide the feedback that matters most to buyers.

Can this feature override buyer feedback?

No. Buyer feedback always takes priority. eBay only applies automated feedback if no feedback or issues are reported within seven days of confirmed delivery. If a buyer leaves feedback after that, it immediately replaces the automated message.

Will buyers see that eBay left feedback for them?

No. Buyers aren’t notified when eBay adds automated feedback. They’re free to leave feedback as they normally would, and if they do, eBay will replace the automated feedback.

Sendle service update: How we are protecting you on ebay.com.au

As of 11 January 2026, Sendle has halted all bookings for parcel pickup and delivery in Australia. As a result, sellers are currently unable to create new Sendle labels through eBay.

  • What you need to know
  • How eBay is protecting you

What you need to know

If you use eBay Postage Labels and have Sendle selected as part of your calculated postage services, please review your listings and switch to Australia Post for new orders.

  • New Sendle labels can no longer be created through eBay Postage Labels.
  • Sellers using calculated postage with eBay Postage Labels should update their listings to use Australia Post, as Sendle rates are no longer available.
  • Parcels already picked up and in transit with Sendle are expected to be delivered by Sendle’s delivery partners, although some delays may occur.
  • Any Sendle labels created but not yet scanned or picked up will not be charged, as Sendle labels are paid on scan. Sellers will need to purchase a new label using Australia Post.

How eBay is protecting you

For affected orders, eBay will help protect sellers who have acted in good faith.

  • Late delivery defects related to the Sendle disruption will be removed
  • Affected Item Not Received cases will be excluded from your Service Metrics
  • Negative or neutral feedback linked to late or non delivery caused by this disruption will be removed

These protections will be applied automatically where possible. There is no need to contact Customer Support unless you have a specific issue.

eBay will continue to monitor the situation closely and share updates if anything changes.

Optional Authenticity Guarantee (eBay-Echtheitsprüfung) now available for clothing, shoes, and accessories on ebay.de

eBay builds trust.

  • What you need to know
  • How it works
  • Key conditions
  • What are the benefits of the authenticity check

What you need to know

Since November 2025, buyers of selected branded and designer items have been able to choose an optional authenticity check. If they opt in, eBay experts will inspect and certify the item. This service gives buyers confidence that they’re receiving genuine branded merchandise — helping you increase your chances of making a sale.

How it works

  • The optional authenticity check is automatically shown on listings for selected branded and designer items. Buyers can add it before delivery for a small fee
  • After the purchase, you send the branded or designer item to the eBay team of experts for a thorough inspection
  • Once the item is verified, it is shipped directly to the buyer along with an authenticity certificate

Key conditions include

  • The optional authenticity check is available for items from 37 selected brands with a value of over €100*
  • Buyers who choose the authenticity check pay a €10 fee*

What are the benefits of the authenticity check

Build trust: Buyers want reassurance — especially when purchasing high-value branded and designer items. The authenticity check helps provide that confidence.

Increase sales opportunities: With the optional authenticity check, you can reach more buyers who are specifically looking for authentic items from their favorite brands.

Scan, drop off, done — how returns will work

Returns on ebay.de will soon become much easier for buyers. When they request a return, they will receive a QR code instead of a shipping label. They can show this code at the drop-off point either on their smartphone or as a printout. The carrier scans the code, prints the label on the spot, and attaches it to the parcel. This saves time and improves security — without changing your usual processes.

Your benefits

More security

Printable PDF return labels can be prone to errors and may be mixed up or accidentally used more than once. With a QR code, the shipping label is created directly by the carrier at drop-off and attached to the parcel. This makes tracking more reliable and easier to follow.

More trust and satisfaction for your buyers

The QR code can be shown at drop-off on a smartphone, or printed if needed. This saves time and simplifies the return process. Tracking also lets buyers keep an eye on the return shipment on its way back to you.

Next steps

Nothing changes for you: returns will still be sent to the return address you have stored, including tracking. You will be able to see details such as the buyer’s address on the shipping label that the carrier attaches to the parcel.

If buyers ask you for a printed return label, you can let them know that printed labels are no longer provided and the QR code is now used instead. If a printout is still preferred, the QR code itself can be printed and presented at drop-off.

Refined protection against mixed feedback on ebay.co.uk

Feedback containing unfair comments will be hidden and sent back to the buyer to review.

  • What you need to know
  • What this means for you

What you need to know

eBay's refining how mixed feedback affects your profile. When a buyer’s comment contains policy-violating content, eBay’ll ask them to edit it while keeping valid feedback. This helps preserve genuine comments and maintain credibility and trust with future customers. eBay’s making this policy change to align with global regulatory requirements.

What this means for you

Currently, buyer feedback that violates the eBay policy will be removed entirely. Since October 2025, mixed feedback, which contains both valid and invalid content, will be temporarily hidden from your profile and returned to the buyer for potential revision, without counting towards your feedback revision request limit.

If a buyer revises and resubmits their feedback it will be reviewed and republished, as long as it complies with the eBay policy. Feedback that repeatedly violates policy will be permanently removed. eBay’ll also keep you updated whenever eBay reaches out to a buyer for edits.

In most cases, you won’t notice a change. Only a small amount of feedback may appear that would have previously been removed.
